Fair Haven is a delightful town situated in Rutland County, on the junction of US Route 4 and 22A. It may be the first town in Vermont that you will pass when driving up from New York. Many people, however, end up bypassing it and going on the interstate highway straight to Rutland. However, Fair Haven is worth a visit, and you may even like it enough to stay at one of the many Fair Haven bed and breakfasts and Fair Haven inns available. There, you will not only enjoy the comforts that Fair Haven lodging has to offer, but you will also take pleasure in the village itself; which is home to numerous examples of fine architecture, especially some marble buildings in a Late Victorian style. There are several lakes within easy distance of Fair Haven lodging. These are Lake Bomoseen, Lake Champlain, and Lake St. Catherine. Camping grounds and picnic areas, public beaches for outdoor swimming, and attractive wooded sites can all be found at Lake St. Catherine State Park and Bomoseen State Park. Bomoseen also offers hiking trails, one of which leads to the Half Moon State Park, and its facilities for boating and fishing. In the town itself, you can dine at friendly local restaurants and pizzerias, play on the local golf courses, and go shopping for antiques and art. No wonder the place is known as Fair Haven.
